This is off beaten track (double entendre), but just as I posted about The Glitch Mob and their interest in Haiti, I just came across another endeavor w/ Haiti @ center stage.
I can go on and on how fresh this is, but I show love not only as Haitian, but also since it was mixed by A Man Called Warwick of the LEGENDARY Movement crew from Toronto, one of the most influential collective of music programmers the city of Toronto has seen. They were responsible for some of the best events @ the now defunct and extinct Roxy Blu. (Rest In Paradise)
But if you can ever catch A Man Called Warwick bka Simon around town, or on his bike, he's liekly getting things ready for his Turning Points night over @ the Gladstone Hotel.
Anyhow, take in this mix that A Man Called Warwick did after a trip to Haiti. You can read more here. Shouts to Mochilla + Vtech for making that happen. BIG.
Shouts to man like Simon. Drinks on me when I see you next still.
Those of you in LA know about this. A new night, and but if an off shoot of Low End Theory called Futura. The inaugural night took place just about 2 weeks back and featured the Miguel Atwood Ferguson led Quartetto Fantastico, Teebs and Asura.
wow.
Well, over the weekend a leak showed up. This is live version of Fall In Love (you know who this is...) courtesy of Non Projects's Asura and co. alex genco - drums, max kaplan - tenor sax and ryan york (asura) - double bass.
I'm all about remixes. Readers here know my steez. But man, none have been more anticipated than this one set. Here's wassup.
California bit crushers The Glitch Mob release not one but two volumes of remixes from their famed Drink The Sea album. Guests re-edits come from a deep sea of producers from all around: King Britt, ESKMO, Beats Antique, EPROM, DJ Vadim, Deru, SPL, Skeet Skeet, Mr. Projectile, Comma, Salva, Kastle, Nalepa, R/D, Virtual Boy, Machinedrum, Jogger, St. Andrew, Them Jeans, Chris De Luca, Camo UFOs, Adam.01, Pawn, Mirko Kosmos and Mindelixir.
More important however, every single sale of the remixes will be donated to a Haiti relief fund.
SAY WRD.
As Boreta told me himself in an email:
So yeah the remix project we are donating all of the proceeds to Haiti and it's coming out on the 1 year anniversary of the earthquake. It was a good opportunity for us to get involved because so many people wanted to submit a remix so we felt like it would be best to put it all towards a good cause. More than anything I felt like once the cameras were on to the next thing, most people forgot about the Haiti earthquake. Everyone assumed it's just OK when in fact Haiti never got the aid they needed from the world.
I said this last year, and i'll say it again: the amount of $ that will be needed to rebuild Haiti is essentially a blank check. And as you all have seen (or heard for those w/ n o TV), things have gotten worse. This act of benevolence by The Glitch Mob goes beyond words. Pls check their site for more info.
The Drink The Sea Remixes are out Jan 12th 2010. More deets as we approach the date. In the interim, here's a freebie to start it all off...

As was announced sometime back, Montréal's and Lucky Me's own Lunice is broadcasting his release party for Stacker Upper live from... USTREAM. Enjoy. Say Wrd. Shouts to Lucky Me fam (Dom, where ya @?) and Lunice of course. Congrats.
Homies @ Lucky Me are building a small army. Unbeknownst to me, they picked up Tiombe Lockhart led Cubic Zirconia (or maybe I just forgot? idk anymore). Anyhow, to highlight their arrival in EU and corresponding dates, they've put out a set of remixes featuring some good friends: Dam Funk and Waajeed among others.
California's bass bin crusher Shlohmo curates the latest Klipkast from the Klipm0de massive.

1st ran into the name of Mizz Beats in a random convo I believe I was having w/ a friend in London. She was like "You need to check for her still". Being that I totally respected her tastes and calls, I did. Grabbed a fresh track off a comp, but hadn't heard much of a peep after that, until some riddims resurfaced on Alex Nut's mix show. Whoa.
Then the secret was out: Mizz Beats was officially Eglo Records family and was planning an EP. Nice. And, for those who listen to Mixed Nuts on Rinse, you've heard the riddims. Fierce.
There's now official reports from Eglo that the EP is coming out, though w/ no set date yet. That's enough for me man. Here's a likkle taste still....
What a week. Just as there was a missing Viral Radio podcast a few days back, I was just about to put out an APB asking where the new Low End Theory Podcast was, then...
Just about 3 months since the last one featuring Baths, we now have v18 featuring resident DJ Nobody, just back from the Low End Theory Japan tour and Jon Wayne aka Jon Wayniac aka Jawn Wayne.
1st of all, congrats to Dublab for hitting their financial goal. Hats off to the whole massive there. You cats have some incredible programming.
So the good ppl over @ Non Projects supported the cause and took over the airwaves yesterday.
Here's the set in it's entirety.
So, as I sat there chatting w/ my man Juha, Dimlite's name came up... and I though: OMG. The Stones Throw podcast!
Their podcast, dope. DIMLITE?! DOPER.
It's been a min since we've heard from the Swiss esotericist. If you haven't picked up his last record on Now And Again, make it happen. But even more urgent, is the new Stones Throw podcast, #63, available now as curated by yours truly, Dimlte.

Would you believe I had writer's block? I simply couldn't think of words outside of YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! (Alex Nut knows).
I've been a massive fan (cue little girly shrieks) of a Matt Cutler's bka Lone and a man's riddims. SO when I received 1/2 the EP weeks back, I was just speechless. But the best news has come about just a day ago: you can stream his new release Emerald Fantasy Tracks on XLR8R ahora. Yup, in it's entirety.
There is no date set for this Lone release but enjoy the stream, courtesy of XLR8R.
As this podcast went up, I had been thinking - where's Viral Radio? Augury of fine audio it had been for so long, this gap in shows was truly miserable. Well, my prayers were totally answered - and then some.
Going even more further in the exosphere - we have the return of the Viral Radio show w/ Juha as they have also seemingly joined the Red Bull Music Academy network - amazing.
All hail the homecoming. And what a homecoming indeed. There's some ridiculous heat in this 2hr podcast. All great things come to those who wait - Viral is totally vital.

Saturday's edition of LA Times did a piece on our fave troubadour. It's happening. Major. Congrats Gaslamp Killer and welcome back from the tour. Shouts to Brainfeeder.
Nice.
Man like Slugabed got riddims. So does a cat called Mwëslee - repping Spain in the realest ways. Mwëslee laid down a remix for the double A side Donky Pitch EP that just dropped (and is available now). Better is that it's made it's way to become a track for all to enjoy and download.
This is kinda wild. 1st, I've not heard a peep from golden boy Bullion in a hot minute. It's always a pleasure, no matter the delays.
So, gearing up for a new record You Drive Me To Plastic dropping this week, Bullion leaks a nugget for the massive.
Crazy side note, I used to work with this band that used the same sample some years back. That sh*t always freaks me out.
Anyhow, i've always liked Bullion's work - as scarce as it's been before this release. I hope you do as well.
Man, i haven't spoken about 1000 Names inna min. The Sofia samurais released a fresh record this year on Black Acre and I hadn't caught up w/ post about it. But the world keeps turning, and so does the wax... and the mixes keep coming.
In a tweet I spotted just about 1 week ago I believe, was a mix they curated for Menta Session blog.

ARP 101 is back. Returning through our airwaves like Halley's Comet - though he hadn't been gone 75 yrs. But after a stellar release about 75 days ago, this declassified Eglo Records top secret returns with yet another big banger: Flush / Ac!d 2
Some of you may have heard it starting to get some burn from the usual suspects such as Benji and, Alex Nut of course.
ARP 101 puts together some more of that dark matter, layering arpeggiating and colorful sprites streaking across the track in a 130 beat riddim, adding keys a little later to fill it out. Nice.
Ac!d 2 goes more of the future beats route, going w/ a sub 100 tempo full of dark synths, keeping w/ the galactic mood and theme.
Something is bubbling. A east west experiment is taking place, with the 1st session having just passed a few days back. Could we be witness to a quasi mini manhattan project? Lead scientists in this experiment: Prison Garde, Ango and Lunice.
Yep. For those producing in Ableton Live, take in some free packs from season productions vets from Saturn Never Sleeps aka King Britt and Rucyl. You can grab it here.
Late September, I was chatting w/ the good ppl @ Non Projects about the Ana Caravelle remixes record, listening and looking @ track listings. A few def caught my eye. We were suddenly goign back and forth about this a.d.l.r. cat and I was getting the scoop. Say wrd. So I loaded up the iTunes library and kept it moving.
FFWD some weeks and here we are getting leaks. Awesome. a.d.l.r. is going to be LA outfit Non Project's newest release for the new year. Can't wait for this to see light of day. His sound?? Man... lush textures of quasi field recordings with rhythms coming in and out mezzo piano, à la Mathhewdavid (w/o creating any comparisons as I hate doing such, but #justpaintingapicture).
Anyhow, we are now privy to a leak from the forth coming full length in the new year, Foam on the Waves of Space-Time... among some other goodies I dug up.
I'd been meaning to post this for more than a min (what else is new). We finally got to connect, days before he embarked on a EU tour, but Gifted & Blessed - GB for short - has music out there. We was featured on the LA Series from All City and has out some heat out there.
He recently let out the snack pack of tracks for all to enjoy. An EP entitled Zerrissenheit.
Allow me to let him break it down:
Zerrissenheit is a term coined by William James, which he roughly translated as "torn-to-pieces-hood," a state of being broken or in disarray. To be human is to feel fractured and pulled in a dozen different directions at times. It is precisely during these times in our yearning for self-repair that we find ourselves most open to rebirth, growth, and eventually a heightened sense of spirituality we otherwise could not have reached. This begins with confronting and assimilating our shadow selves into our being. Then as we move through our emotions, we can put these pieces back together into a more full life experience, imperfections and all.
Plugging in a u-s-b waiting for the b-u-s can precipitate g-o-o-d. Klipm0de'sMndsgn bangs out tuneful tones style vivace post a moment of motivation wrought with wrath. Long story. Mndsgn goes a little left on this one for the klipm0de devotees. And it's oh so right... Say wrd.
Nonetheless, enjoy.
As you may (or may no know), Take has launched a remix contest with the winner getting a slot on his soon to be released remix record due @ the top of 2011 from Alpha Pup. Special guests on the record will be (but won't be limited to): Tokimonsta, Mux Mool, Alex B, Low Limit, Teebs, Falty DL, Dibiase, Mono/Poly, Free The Robots, Shlohmo, Elliot Lipp among others.
Both Ableton and Obey Clothing have also promised to add to the prizing.
So it's been just over 2 weeks and the submissions have been coming in very fast and furious. Love to see that kind of involvement. So, for your enjoyment, here they are for you to judge: TakeNeon Beam remixes, as submitted by you. Don't forget you can head over to the Take Remixes microsite to vote for your fave. Hell, you can even still submit your own. And why not even submit a 2nd one if you got that much heat. You have until December 10th to do so. All deets here. Say wrd.
My man Xi and I chat about this on the reg. I fucking love this sh*t. Something about some lo fi that just tickles my fancy. Regardless, Leaving Records pulls one out yet again, this time from the other side of the planet: New Zealand.
Introducing MGR.
@ this very minute, I don't have much but I'm simply down with the beat-at-any-costs narrative.
LRF008 is coming from New Zealand’s MGR relentlessly creating from his immediate environment i.e. free internet, friends walkmen, friends MPCs, college campus computer labs, found 1/8″ cables, bare feet…
Bare feet? Reminds of another Kiwi I know. And I'll always recall a RBMA lecture where Egon said Madlib created a record for the price of hydro/electricity.... Mere cents... LOL. But regardless, take this one in for now. MGR for Leaving Records. #allday.
I've been following Dnae Beats for a hot min, listening to some of that Bay area blap, watching him zig zag across the globe, taking his mpc mastery to all corners of this planet of ours. He's toured solo, as support for Gift Of Gab, taught music in South America - as classic bon vivant and impresario.
So today, we celebrate his most recent achievement, a new LP Secrets Worth Dying For.
To be expected?? A musical cataclysm of 140 bizness when the high pressure splendor of sounds, song and melody collide w/ the low pressure of big beat, kicks and snares. No doubt.
This 12 cut banger reps the bay with more pride than Tim Lincecum on the mound. Say wrd. Dnae Beats's Secrets Worth Dying For is out TODAY. Show love. Grab it here.
This past weekend was the Red Bull Megahurtz over in Vancouver. A massive show full of LEDs, MPDs and 3D. Yup. A quasi low-frequency oscillations vs lumens type of battle, but with no winners - just a big extravaganza. And from what the shots recapitulate, what a night indeed. Of course, David Lang tells the tale with his telephoto lens like no one else. And it looked little something like this.... (btw, I just said f*** it and installed lightbox so click on any photo to zoom and use either left/right arrows or n/p keys to navigate b/w shots)
Size med, thinn finns, 1nce constantly bespectacled but now more off than on. Now on 1st name basis with foreign immigration. Window seats if I have my say. Amaretto sour when I play the back, banana jacks when I spark the night, Jager bombs when I'm calling the shots - let's do it right. Family all day long.
