Dimlite in Dim Lights: BeatDimensions @ Bimhuis, HOL. 04.24.2009

My man Dom and I were chatting about what is the look of performance beat music. I told him about shows that I heard of taking place @ Bimhuis in Holland, a jazz and improvisation performance space. I had seen shots of Mike Slott and HudMo (seen below) and others rawking it.

In fact, I was a hair away of seeing one last year. I had always loved the idea of playing/performing for an attentive crowd - sans the distraction of a full dancefloor...
ANYHOW, last week was another date @ Bimhuis where a Beat Dimension performance was to take place. Enlisted for the night were Kode 9, Spaceape, Cinnamin and Juha.

We need this Toronto. Here's the footage of Dimlite rawking it in his solo performance.

I def need to see this myself soon.

  1. Thanks for reposting this. The Beat Dimensions nights Cinnaman and I have been organising in the Bimhuis in Amsterdam have been a delight to artists, audience and Bimhuis. Having moved the night from a club in May 2008, with the first (sold out) concerts by Hudson Mohawke and Flying Lotus, we have now organised three nights following the simple but effective concept: experimental beat music over a mint soundsystem in perfect acoustics in front of a seated audience. Turn outs have been very good, averaging over 250 people in a club that normally hosts jazz and improvised music concerts. This is a completely new venture, and we will continue doing it.
We would love to export the night to forward thinking venues out there. So if there is any promoter of artistic director reading this, why don't you in touch with us. Here are some more videos of the other nights >

    Peace from overseas.

  2. Juha... The pleasure was mine man. Ever since I saw pics of the venue and the concept, I was sold. I always talk about beat music and the listeners. I've been trying to play venues with no dance floor and a big system. Ha. That's like the glass slipper. Still looking... but one day. Anyhow, I'll be on the look out Juha, best believe. I'll prolly run into you guys before it happens though... We'll see. Good Work and pls send my best to Cinnaman as well.

  3. I definitely would recommend this, a review and pictures here.
